Jessica Foxley Stages was the first project organised by Jessica Foxley Music Projects and the largest to date. It provided high profile performance opportunities for young musicians at Colne’s Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival. Starting in 2010 with local bands, the project soon grew, attracting highly talented applicants from all corners of the UK.
During the project’s ten year history, over 70 bands have performed on the festival’s main stages under the Jessica Foxley banner. Festival organisers engaged many of them to return as mainstream acts in subsequent years – such was the quality of the Jessica Foxley Stages bands. From 2017 onwards, Jessica Foxley Music Projects had the privilege of nominating one of the Jessica Foxley Stages bands to take part in the prestigious UK Blues Challenge. The last of these was Liverpool based Little Triggers. The photo captures their fiery performance at the 2019 festival.
Sadly, in the run-up to the 2020 festival, it became clear that Jessica Foxley Stages should not continue. The quality of performance opportunities being offered by the festival organisers was no longer sufficient to fulfil the project’s aims.
At Jessica Foxley Music Projects, we are very proud of all that Jessica Foxley Stages achieved for over ten years. We are now focusing on exciting new opportunities which allow us to continue to provide high calibre performance opportunities for young musicians.
We wish the organisers of any future festival in Colne every success and hope they will continue the legacy of introducing sparkling young talent – without seeing this as an opportunity to engage musicians without paying them!
